The Most Holy Trinity, May 26, 2024

All of us Capuchin friars will be in Cleveland from May 28-31 for an Assembly, a several day gathering and meeting. We will discuss relevant topics, but the most important thing is that all friars of our Province will be together to share prayer and fraternity for a few days. Our friars are scattered over several states, in cities and small towns, and in rural places. We have a common goal to follow Jesus as Saint Francis did. Please pray for us Capuchins. Pray especially that God will give us vocations so that our work and witness can continue.

During our absence, Masses, confessions and Jefferson Hospital ministry will be covered by two diocesan priests, Father Joseph Jin and Father Charles Noone.

Collection for Saint John’s Debt Reduction

This weekend, May 25-26, our second collection will be to make a substantial payment before the end of the fiscal year on our more than $600,000 debt. Please be generous.

Laudato Si Circle

May 24 marks the 9th anniversary of Pope Francis’ encyclical LAUDATO SI. Our Saint John’s Laudato Si Circle marks the anniversary from May19 to 26 to inspire “a personal and cultural transformation in the midst of our ecological and climate crisis”. During that week, our Laudato Si Circle proposes that you talk about ecological conversion, promote sustainable food and transportation, reduce waste, and work as individuals to better educate ourselves in integral ecology. The Circle meets the 1st Sunday of every month in the Parish Center following the 10:30 Mass. All are welcome!

Estate of George A Butler, Jr

Saint John the Evangelist Church received a $25,000 bequest from the estate of George A Butler, Jr. Mr Butler was not a parishioner of Saint John’s, but a faithful attendee of daily Mass during his years of practicing law in Center City. This bequest reminds us that many people appreciate the weekday ministry—daily Masses, confessions and an open church for prayer—that Saint John’s offers. Please say a prayer for Mr Butler and please continue your support for Saint John the Evangelist Church.

Remember Saint John Church in your will

People from all over the Philadelphia region and beyond tell me how much they appreciate Saint John Church. I hear how people visited the church for Mass, confessions or prayer during breaks from work or on shopping visits to Center City. Saint John’s is still a haven of peace and faith. Please consider naming Saint John the Evangelist Church as a beneficiary of your last will and testament. You can assure that some of the wealth that you worked to save during your life will help to keep Saint John Church open and vibrant for future generations.
