Weekly Update January 7, 2024

Epiphany Blessing

The Catholic Church has a long tradition of blessing homes on the feast of the Epiphany. Families gather and pray together for peace and love in their homes and they mark their homes with chalk to honor the Magi who visited Jesus on the first Epiphany. We will distribute today prayers and chalk so that all of our Saint John’s parishioners and visitors can bless their homes. Be sure to take home an envelope from the back of the church today.

Jac’s Yacs Epiphany Party

Young adults (people in their 20s and 30s) are invited o pizza, beer (and other beverages) and Catholic trivia after the 6 PM Mass on Sunday January 7.

Thank you

Thank you to all who made our Christmas celebration so lovely. Thanks to our choir and musicians, to Dr. Annette DiMedio, to our lectors and servers and to Nadine who coordinates our liturgical ministers. Thanks to Deborah who decorated the upper and lower churches. Thanks to our office and church security staff who provided support for our activities. Thanks to the friars who presided and preached at our liturgies. And special thanks to all who attend Mass at Saint John’s. Your presence is an encouragement to everyone.

Elderly and ill parishioners

Please call our office if you know of elderly or ill parishioners who would like to be visited in their homes and offered Holy Communion.

Mark your calendars for the Annual Mass for Firefighters

On February 16, 1899, Saint John Church burned. Four firefighters lost their lives fighting that fire. We remember those four men and all firefighters who lost their lives defending the lives and property of others and we pray for the safety of all firefighters. Please join us for our annual Mass for Firefighters on Saturday February 17 at 10 AM.
