I have an important reflection for all of us to consider and one news item.

You are I are aware there is so much violence in our world and society. I want to offer the following, that you and I take the:

Pledge of Nonviolence
Making peace must start within ourselves and in our families. Each of us must commitment ourselves as best we can to become nonviolent and peaceable people:

  • To Respect Self and Others: to respect myself, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism, hateful words, physical and self-destructive behavior.
  • To Communicate Better: to share my feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express my anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully.
  • To Listen: to listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with me and to consider others’ feelings and needs rather than insist on having my own way.
  • To Forgive: to apologize and make amends when I have hurt another, to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.
  • To Be Courageous: to challenge violence in all its forms whenever I encounter it, whether at home, at school, at work, or in the community, and to stand with others who are treated unfairly.

Items needed for certain liturgical celebrations.
I do not have the cost of the items but will have that information in my column next week. Perhaps you might be interest in memorializing one of these:

  • for a person(s) who have died, it would be In Memory of....
  • for a person(s) who are living, it would be In Honor of....

Here are two items we need:
Humeral Veil which is used for Benediction and a Reliquary for the relic of St. Theresa of Calcutta. I may have one or two more items.

Historical Preservation Endowment Fund

Thank you for all you do for our parish and for your commitment to ensure that St. John’s continues to be “Good News in the Heart of Philadelphia.”
Peace and God’s blessings.
