Peter’s Pence Collection

Throughout the world Catholics are invited to support Pope Francis by making a donation to the Peter’s Pence Collection this weekend, June 15 and 16. The money collected supports the Pope’s ministry of serving the church and assisting the poor. Please be generous.

Land of Peace

On the weekend of June 15-16, representatives from the Land of Peace mission will visit Saint John’s to offer for sale olive wood religious items made by Christian families in the Holy Land. Many Palestinians are Christians, though the dreadful situation in the Holy Land is causing many to leave. Because of the war in Israel and Palestine, there are almost no pilgrims or tourists and the people are desperate for income. Purchasing olive wood hand crafted items from the Holy Land is a way of supporting our suffering brothers and sisters.

Jack’s Yacs Thursday prayer and beer

This Thursday, June 20, all young adults are invited to gather for beer and snacks at the Independence Beer Garden after the 5:15 PM Mass.

Saint John’s Summer Picnic

Please mark your calendars. Our annual summer picnic will be on Sunday, July 7 from 11 AM to 2:30 PM. The theme will be “the 1950s: Happy Days”. It will be in the parish center. Saint John’s will provide beverages and the main courses (meat cooked on the grill). We invite you to bring side dishes and desserts.

Secular Franciscans and Christ in the City

Christ in the City is a young adult Catholic missionary outreach to homeless people. Our local Christ in the City missionaries befriend homeless people who often lack friends and family support. Christ in the City missionaries serve a hot lunch every Wednesday and our Secular Franciscan “chefs” have committed to cook entrees every 4th Wednesday. Christ in the City missionaries also need socks and water bottles. If you are able to help please contact Carolyn at (267) 881-8794.

Manna Food Collection

Thanks to all who contributed non perishable food items to stock the Padre Pio Prayer Center food pantry in Frankford. The response was overwhelming. Brother Edgar picked up our food donations and took it to Frankford. He tells me that food donations are especially important as we enter summer, a time when need is high and donations are low. Thanks.
