Epiphany Blessing
The Catholic Church has a long tradition of blessing homes on the feast of the Epiphany. Families gather and pray together for peace and love in their homes and they mark their homes with chalk to honor the Magi who visited Jesus on the first Epiphany. If you did not take home last weekend an envelope with the information for the Epiphany house blessing, there are still a few envelopes available in the back of the church.
Catholic Relief Services Collection
This annual collection supports the major Catholic agency to assist the poor around the world. Please be generous this weekend, January 13-14.
Saint John Church Debt Reduction
Saint John Church is still in debt and we need to pay off our debt in order to move forward. Our second collection next weekend, January 20-21 will be for our debt reduction.
Elderly and ill parishioners
Please call our office if you know of elderly or ill parishioners who would like to be visited in their homes and offered Holy Communion.
Ash Wednesday, February 14
Ash Wednesday is the busiest day of the year at Saint John’s. On Ash Wednesday, we minister to thousands of people who come to Saint John’s to begin Lent. We need volunteers: to distribute ashes, to greet people, to organize the activities. If you can volunteer, please contact Nadine at flossiecamac@gmail.com or Father Tom.
Mark your calendars for the Annual Mass for Firefighters
On February 16, 1899, Saint John Church burned. Four firefighters lost their lives fighting that fire. We remember those four men and all firefighters who lost their lives defending the lives and property of others and we pray for the safety of all firefighters. Please join us for our annual Mass for Firefighters on Saturday February 17 at 10 AM.
Remember Saint John Church in your will
People from all over the Philadelphia region and beyond tell me how much they appreciate Saint John Church. I hear how people visited the church for Mass, confessions or prayer during breaks from work or on shopping visits to Center City. Saint John’s is still a haven of peace and faith. Please consider naming Saint John the Evangelist Church as a beneficiary of your last will and testament. You can assure that some of the wealth that you worked to save during your life will help to keep Saint John Church open and vibrant for future generations.
