At the end of August, we must say a sad goodbye to Fr. John Daya, our pastor. Fr. John has led our parish for the last 12 years and he will be greatly missed. We pray that the Lord bless him, and that he will be a blessing to the people of Our Lady of the Mountains in Cumberland, MD.

  1. Father John, you may not remember me, but my name is Michael Vassallo. I am not a parishioner of St. John The Evangelist because I’m a New Yorker, but there were a few times that I visited while in Philadelphia, and I was always impressed with your aura of serenity. I went to you for Confession a couple of times, and one time we exchanged letters because I made a donation to have your church renovated. I was happy to do that. And now, I wish you the best of luck in this new chapter of your life. I think the impact that you’re leaving on St. John The Evangelist Church will be felt for a long time, even by me the next time I am in the area and stop in. Be well, Father.

    You made us feel so welcome from Day one when my husband and I first join St John’s. You blessed our marriage, you baptized my son Izel and they way you made an intimate First communion mass ceremony for my son has been always dear to our heart. You welcome our family from Mexico. God bless you in your new journey
