From The Pastor's Desk

I have an important reflection for all of us to consider and then two news items.

You are I are aware there is so much violence in our world and society. I want to offer the following, that you and I take the:

Pledge of Nonviolence

Making peace must start within ourselves and in our families. Each of us must commitment ourselves as best we can to become nonviolent and peaceable people:

To Respect Self and Others: to respect myself, to affirm others and to avoid uncaring criticism, hateful words, physical and self-destructive behavior.
To Communicate Better: to share my feelings honestly, to look for safe ways to express my anger, and to work at solving problems peacefully.
To Listen: to listen carefully to one another, especially those who disagree with me and to consider others’ feelings and needs rather than insist on having my own way.
To Forgive: to apologize and make amends when I have hurt another, to forgive others, and to keep from holding grudges.
To Be Courageous: to challenge violence in all its forms whenever I encounter it, whether at home, at school, at work, or in the community, and to stand with others who are treated unfairly.

You are aware that Holy Redeemer Chinese Church and School is our mission parish. This Sunday 8 girls and 1 boy will make their First Holy Communion at the 11:15 am Mass. This Thursday, June 10th 25 eighth graders will graduate from our school and move on to High School. Congratulations boys and girls, you are in our prayers.

Thank you for all you do for our parish and ensuring that St. John’s if “Good News in the Heart of Philadelphia”.
Peace and God’s blessings,
Father John
